Abstract

Papaya Eksotika can be exported using refrigerated sea containers to distant makets such as Saudi Arabia and Dubai. Proper handling and storage techniques are the key factors in maintaining the quality of the fruit during the journey. Quality maintenance begins with identification of proper harvesting index and harvesting technique followed by handling procedures such as washing with chlorinated water and treatments with hot water and fungicide to control diseases. Packaging under modified atmosphere condition extends the storage life to about 4 weeks at 10-12 c. Under this condition the fruit can be successfully transported using sea shipment The fruit ripens normally when placed at ambient and marketing and distribution is best done within 7 days of arrival.
