Abstract

Studies were conducted in eastern region of Thailand which durian cultivation widely established during 1991-1994 to examine the infestation distribution and the control method of durian seed borer Mudaria luteileprosa Holloway. Light trap was operated to determine the number of moth capture per night and the relationship between moth caught and fruit damages. The results showed that the duration of moth catch started from early of March to mid May with peak number of moth capture occurring at mid April. Fruit damages were detected from April through June. However most fruits were infested during May. The effect of 5 insecticides viz. methamidophos 60 40 ml/20 lit carbaryl 85 WP 40-50 g/20 lit endosulfan 20 EC 40 ml/20 lit phosalone cypermethrin 40 ml/20 lit and flufenoxuron 20 ml/20 lit and Bacillus thuringiensis 40 ml/20 lit of water was undertaken in 1993 in Chanthaburi 1 location and Rayong provinces 2 locations. There was no significant difference among treatments in 2 locations Chanthaburi and 1 location in Rayong while the opposite results were obtained at another location in Rayong. However the response patterns of insect to treatments in all locations were similar. In controlling seed borer phosalone cypermethrin was the most effective insecticide followed by endosulfan and carbaryl. The first application has to be done when moths appear in the growing area.
