Abstract
This study aimed to compare the first wave pattern of follicular development in terms of mean categories of follicle number and size in local crossbred beef cows stimulated with different protocols of gonadotrophin hormone regimes. Twenty four local crossbred beef cows were treated with four difference regimes; A Follicle Stimulating Hormone FSH administered in a dividing dose at decreased volume twice a day for 3 consecutive days beginning on day 4 of controlled release progesterone impregnated vaginal CIDR-B insertion B FSH administered in a dividing dose at decreased volume twice a day for 4 consecutive days beginning on day 4 of CIDR-B insertion C 2500 iu of Pregnant Mares; Serum Gonadotrophin administered intramuscularly once on day 4 of CIDR-B insertion and D FSH injected intramuscularly in a dividing dose at decreased volume twice a day for 4 consecutive days beginning on day 9 of Estrumate injection. Ovaries were visualized with 7.5 MHz linear array transrectal transducer attached to the portable ultrasound scanner. The data collected were number and sizes of follicles. The results showed that D1 of regimes A and B had significantly higher mean total number of follicle P0.05 compared to C and D. The results indicated that A and B would be the best protocols to superstimulated due to greater and longer available mean total follicle. Day 1 would be the best time to do ovum pick-up due to the greater P0.05 availability of mean total numbers of follicles.
