Abstract

The effect of set stocking S and rotational grazing R by lactating dairy cows on herbage production and utilization and milk production from pasture were determined under time-restricted grazing 5 hours/day and the same stocking rate 6 cows/ha. Annual mean grass height cm was lower in S than R 9.7 vs. 12.6. However mean herbage mass Tdm/ha throughout the grazing period was similar to both groups 0.6 since annual mean tiller density No./ m2 in S was higher than in R 6 662 vs. 5 214. Because daily regrowth rate of herbage mass in S was higher than in R total amount of herbage production tDM/ha including herbage growth before grazing was higher in S than R 02.1 vs. 10.3. Annual herbage utilization tDM/ha and milk production from pasture t/ha were higher in S than R herbage 11.2 vs. 7.0; milk 9.1 vs. 6.7.
