Abstract

The efficiency of three types of approximated accuracy methods for genetic evaluation was compared. The Meyer;s method was used as the base method and the second method was a modification of the Meyer;s method using diagonal elements of coefficient matrix in a mixed model equation. The third method was also a modification of the Meyer;s method to account for inbreeding of parents. Data on milk yield of Iranian Holstein were used. To study the effects of data size on the efficiency of approximation three data sets with different number of records were randomly extracted from the original data file. Maximum efficiency was obtained using the diagonal elements of coefficient matrix in mixed model equations. The inclusion inbreeding parameters had no considerable effect on the efficiency. Increasing the size of data set was observed to improve the approximation efficiency.
