Abstract

2012 has seen the launch of 1 Malaysia Biomass Alternative Stratergy IMBAS by the Prime Minister that aims to integrate all activities for Malaysian Biomass conducted at ministries agencies academia and industries level. Palm Oil sector has been the main focus as it generates a huge amount of biomass estimated to reach 100 million dry tonnes by 2020. Plenty of strategies have been outlined to sustainably develop new industries products new knowledge technologies new jobs new wealth for the benefit of the country and its people. But where do the wood products stands in this ;new wealth creation; This paper will focus on the oil palm trunk value added products from the current innovations the RDC and the challenges that faced by scientists academia and private companies when it comes to participating in the strategies outlined.
