Abstract
Blended biodiesel fuel is considered as alternatives to current fossilized fuels. The fuel physical characteristics are among the most important parameter to determine the quality of each fuel. Different procedures are used to measure and indicate the viscosity density acid value Cetane number and calorific value of the diesel fuel BO blended fuel BI0 and B20 with different percentage of diethyl ether additive in order to define the actual properties of blended biodiesel with the additive. These obtained properties are very beneficial to be used in any arithmetical simulation for further findings. These properties provide good explanations on how the engine operates with those fuels in terms of performance combustion and emission characteristics. Analysis of biodiesel and its additive were conducted in UMP Chemical laboratory using different analytical apparatus including viscosity bath acid value acidity tester density meter and bomb calorimeter. Properties comparison was being made between mineral diesel B10 and B20 with different percentage of DEE additives. The results show that the presence of diethyl ether additive helps to reduce the viscosity and density of biodiesel concentration when blending with mineral diesel. On the other hand a slight increase in a certain number as a result of a high additive cetane number will obvious in the biodiesel blend fuels. However the properties of biodiese1 and its blended fuel with additive still meet the requirement of ASTM standards.
