Abstract

Cyclodextrins are semi-natural oligosaccharides composed mainly of D-Glucose with a 1-4 linkages. Having a cyclo structure cyclodextrins exist in a conical form with a hydrophilic side exposed to outside and a hydrophobic cavity inside. With this structure cyclodextrins can improve the solubility of some hydrophpbic organic compounds in water. As one of the parameters affecting the rate of the emulsion polymerization processes is the aqueous phase solubility of the monomer cyclodextrins were found to increase this solubility leading to an increase in the polymerization rate. This research discusses the effect of cyclodextrin on different steps within the emulsion polymerization procedure.
