Abstract

Shoot tip explants of different cultivars of banana: Mas Berangan Intan Tandok Raja Gros Michel and Grand Naine were cultured on modified MS medium supplemented with 100micro m and 10micro m BAP in combination with 1.0micro m lAA to induce scalps via multiple meristematic bud formation. Multiple meristematic buds were obtained after 2 to 4 subcultures on medium supplemented with 100micro m BAP in combination with l.Omicro m lAA for all the cultivars tested. However at 10micro m BAP in combination with 1.0micro m lAA only shoot and root formation was promoted even after 4 subcultures. Among all the cultivars tested Mas was found promising for scalp formation which was obtained after 5 subcultures on the proliferation medium containing 100micro m BAP with 1.0micro m lAA.
