Abstract

A button making process has been carried out on some of the local feldspar deposits by the so-called button test technique. The button test was used to characterize the local feldspar by visual observation. From the finished fired button results visual observation simply confirmed that different materials that have different composition would influence the final outcome. Apart from that. when the raw materials were to introduce to a simple processing method such as magnetic separation in order to lower the iron content the colour change on the button can be observed clearly. This observation gave an indication that reduction of iron content in the sample has upgraded or improved the feldspar content. This simple visual observation technique could be used for characterization in various sectors such as ceramic and glass-making.
