Abstract

Phytoplasmas have been detected in mature coconut palms with symptoms of wilt and yellows disease from Natuna Islands Central Kalimantan and Central Sulawesi in Indonesia. The diseases have destroyed over 10 000 ha of palms in Central Kalimantan. The phytoplasmas were detected by amplification of the I6S rRNA gene and the l6S123S spacer region using a nested PCR. Identity of the phytoplasmas was confirmed by RFLP and DNA sequence analysis.
