Abstract

Two satellite RNAs sat-RNAs designated as sat-RNA6 and sat-RNA7 were found to be naturally associated with cucumber mosaic cucumovirus isolates 6 CMV-6 and 7 CMV-7 respectively. The association of these sat-RNAs with the CMV isolates reduced the virus concentration in Nicotiana tabacum cv. White Burley up to ten times induced systemic necrosis in Lycopersicon esculentum cv. Eggtomato attenuated symptoms in Capsicum annuum cv. MC4 and N. tabacum cv. White Burley. The sat-RNA6 showed a higher virulence by inducing systemic necrosis in tomato and produced local necrosis in inoculated White Burley tobacco leaves.
