Abstract

Although the current advances in bioinformatics functional genomics molecular biology combinatorial chemistry and high-throughput screening are revolutionizing the discovery process ofbiological active substances technology alone will not fulfill the objectives of the crop protection industry into the next century. Transgenic crops generic agrochemicals growing economic pressure on farmers public concerns about safety complex and more costly registration requirements as well as concentration of competition are factors which will shape the innovation pressure on the research-driven crop protection industry.
