Abstract

The history of IPM in Australia as in many other countries shows varying degrees of success. For some cropping systems and pest problems the lack of effective IPM alternatives to blanket or schedule spraying still constitutes a major constraint to IPM implementation. In this paper we briefly review the development and status ofIPM in three crop and pest systems in Australia where there has been some success: the citrus industry in Queensland Diamondback moth in brassica crops in the Lockyer Valley and Helicoverpa pest management in cotton and other crops Australia wide. These illustrate the diversity of approaches and outcomes inherent in the IPM paradigm as it is applied to various pest management problems.
