Abstract

The greenhouse experiments were done to determine the effects of the fungal parasite of Meloidogyne spp. Gliocladium sp. combined with various substrates formulated in alginate pellets on root-knot nematode disease in Meloidogyne-inoculated steamed soil and in Meloidogyne-infested field soil. The two experiments produced almost similar results. Of the three substrates tested i.e. Gliricidialeaf powder mungbean powder and shrimp-shell powder only Gliricidia-Ieaf powder and mungbean powder were apppropriate as fillers of alginate pellets to support Gliocladium sp. to control the disease. Even though shrimp-shell powder was effective in reducing population of the nematode and rootgall index but it had toxic effects on tomato plants.
