Abstract

Amistar; active ingredient; azoxystrobin is a highly active broad spectrum fungicide modelled on natural products and with wide potential for use in tropical agriculture. It controls diseases from all four major groups of plant pathogenic fungi and shows no cross resistance with other classes of fungicide. ;Amistar; disrupts energy production within the fungus acting against a number of stages of fungal development but being particularly effective against high energy demanding stages such as spore germination. Consequently ;Amistar; is best applied prior to infection or in the early stages of disease development. ;Amistar; has an excellent safety and environmental profile and is highly suitable for inclusion in IPM programmes.
