Abstract

Methoxyfenozide was evaluated for the control of key lepidopteran pests on a number ofvegetable crops and rice in Malaysia. On chilli methoxyfenozide applied at 90-150g a.i./ha effectively reduced the percentage of damaged fruits caused by Helicoverpa armigera. Excellent control was achieved at 150g a.i./ha when tested on the same pest on okra. On eggplants where Helicoverpa armigera and Leucinodes orbonalis were key pests methoxyfenozide at 75-150g a.i./ha appeared optimal. On rice methoxyfenozide at 75g a.i./ha tested in an outbreak situation showed excellent control on Cnaphalocrosis medinalis. In all trials methoxyfenozide tested up to 250g a.i./ha was selective to the crops at all stages. Based on the favourable profile of methoxyfenozide on beneficial organisms and its specific activity on lepidopteran pests it is envisioned that the chemistry will be a useful tool for IPM
