Abstract

Endosulfan as Thiodan 35 EC 32.9 w/w was applied at weekly TI fortnightly T2 monthly T3 and bimonthly T4 intervals and the frequency of application was 30 15 8 and 4 for TI T2 T3 and T4 respectively. The degradation rates of endosulfan increased with increasing application frequency. Degradation rates of 0.63 TI 0.28 T2 0.16 T3 and 0.09 T4 mg/kg/day were observed at 209 days after first application. The occurrence of enhanced degradation in endosulfan may serve as a blue-print for future research on the isolation identification and utilization of soil microorganisms for remedial purposes in endosulfan-contaminated soils.
