Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the inheritance and association of malathion insecticide organophosphorus group resistance in brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens. LD50 and LD100 for rice infesting population were 2350ppm and 5950ppm for adults and 2150ppm and 5650ppm for 4th instar nymphs respectively while Leersia hexandra infesting population showed 13 and 36ppm for adults and II and 28ppm for 4th instar nymphs respectively. For Fl generation the average LD50 and LD100 were 1750ppm and 5200ppm for adults and 1550ppm and 5050ppm for 4th instar nymphs respectively. The esterase activity associated with resistance to malathion was control by a single dominant gene. Esterase activity is inherited in simple Mendelian manner.
