Abstract
Leaching studies were conducted on endosulfan and methamidophos in two soil types sandy loam and clay under simulated rainfalls of 10 50 and 100 mm using soil columns. The results showed that although methamidophos was more susceptible to leaching than endosulfan the degree of leaching of both insecticides was distinctly affected by soil types. Leachate of the insecticides collected from the sandy loam soil was found to increase with increasing amount of simulated rainfalls ranging from 0.002 to 0.12 for endosulfan and 0.019 to 7.59 for methamidophos. Leachate of endosulfan was not found in detectable amounts in the clay soil but that of methamidophos 0.145 was detected only at 100 mm rainfall simulation.
