Abstract

Sawit Kinabalu S/B has embarked into oil palm breeding and seed production fifteen years ago in view of the expansion of its company oil palm hectareage and in search for high quality planting materials. With the support from the Department of Agriculture of Sabah and Malaysian Palm Oil Board Sawit Kinabalu S/B has selected and produced four types of D x P planting materials namely Sawit Kinabalu 100 Sawit Kinabalu 200 Sawit Kinabalu 300 and Sawit Kinabalu 400. To date these four types of Sawit Kinabalu D x P planting materials have been widely planted not only in Sabah but also in Sarawak and Kalimantan. The performance of these planting materials in Sawit Kinabalu estates with different agroclimatic conditions was discussed. To further improve Sawit Kinabalu D x P planting material research is on-going to utilise MPOB Nigerian germplasm and also to produce biclonal and semi-clonal seeds from elite palms of Sabah Breeding Programme SBP.
