Abstract

The surface roughness and the amount ofwaxes of the common broadleaves. Diodia ocimifolia and Asystasia gangetica and the narrow leaf Imperata cylindrica and Paspalum conjugatum weeds of oil palm were investigated in the laboratory. All the weeds were categorized as having a rough surface based on the number of hairs/trichome per mm2 macroscopic roughness and the size of epidermal cell size microscopic roughness. The wax amount for abaxial and adaxial leaf surface of the narrow leaf weeds was found to be significantly different. In contrast the amount of wax on both suifaces of the broad leaf weeds was about similar. In the term total wax on the leaf 1. cylindrica 49.88g/ cm2 was rated in the high category A. gangetica 23.02g/cm2 and P. conjugatum 19.59g/cm2 in the medium category and D. ocimifolia 10. 76g/cm2 in the low category.
