Abstract

Callus of cabbage Brassica oleracea var. capitata L. were initiated from cotyledon explants derived from seeds. Cotyledon explants cultured on medium containing 8 and 10 mgL- 2 4-D resulted in high intensity of callus formation with 75-100 of the explant surface covered with callus. The callus produced in these treatments was friable whitish and translucent. On medium without 2 4-D no callus formation was observed. Upon transfer of the friable callus to liquid MS medium containing 1 mgL- 2 4-D rounded cells with dense cytoplasm embryogenic were obtained.
