Abstract

The antioxidant activity of nine marine sponges extracts is reported herein. Antioxidant assays were carried out by using the reduction in optical density ODof 1 I-diphenyl-p-picrylhydrazylDPPHand by determining the total phenolic content. Of all the nine crude extracts examined only two samples exhibited strong DPPH free radical scavenging activity which were P03/012 and B04/002 with 93.38 and 82.04 inhibition respectively. P03/012 and B04/002 also showed high total phenolic content which were 9 mg/g and 4 mg/g gallic acid equivalent GAE respectively.
