Abstract

Extract of eight seaweed samples were screened for cytotoxic activity against HL-60 and MCF-7 cell lines. Methanol extract of Gracilaria heteroclada syn Gracilariopsis bailinae and chloroform extract of Gracilaria changii showed strong activity against MCF-7 cell lines at lC50 0.5 g/mL. Methanol extract of Gracilaria heteroclada showed moderate activity against HL-60 cell lines with lC50 at 15.2g/mL. Chloroform extract of Gracilaria heteroclada methanol extract of Gracilaria manilaiensis and methanol extract of Gracilaria sp. showed weak activity against HL-60 cell line with their lC50 at 25.6 26.6 and 24.4g/mL respectively. All extracts did not show any antioxidant activities.
