Abstract

Alpinia conchigera Griff. is one of the Alpinia species which is also known as joint-whip ginger lengkuas ranting or lengkuas genting. The plant was soaked with hexane dichloromethane ethyl acetate and methanol successively to afford the crude extracts which were then subjected to bioactivity screenings. Crude hexane dichloromethane and ethyl acetate extracts were strongly active against Salmonella choleraesuis in antimicrobial screening test. In antifungal screening test hexane extract showed activity on Aspergillus ochraceaus and Saccharomyces cerevisiae while ethyl acetate extract was active towards S. cerevisiae as well. All crude extracts except methanol extract were very toxic against HL-60 cell line human promyelocytic leukemia in cytotoxicity test whereas hexane and dichloromethane extracts were strongly active in larvicidal assay.
