Abstract

A histopathology study of a granulovirus OY was carried out in the larvae of Spodoptera litura. The virus replicated in either nucleus or cytoplasm in most of the tissues in the targeted larvae. It caused polyorganotropic infection and mostly happened in fat bodies malphigian tubules midgut hypodermis and muscles. The pathological changes were the similar in different infected tissues whereby the nucleus was hypertrophied enlargement of cells and finally rupture of cells. These symptoms were observed after 48-h postinoculation p.i. and infected cells showed severe symptoms after 192-h p.i. Although the disease progressed until 288-h p.i. this virus was successfully infecting in most tissues of the larvae. All the infected tissues were deformed and ruptured releasing granular form of capsules into the hemolymph. Death is the final stage for larvae infected with GY after 12day p.i.
