Abstract
A study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of Eimeria infection among Red Sokoto goats between August 2003 and July 2004 in Sokoto Nigeria. Fresh individual faecal sample was collected from the rectum of 89 goats and screened for coccidian oocysts using direct faecal smear and simple flotation techniques. Overall prevalence of infection was found to be very high 98.8. Prevalence of Eimeria infection did not differ significantly p0.05 when compared between systems of management intensive 96.5 versus semi-intensive 100 versus extensive 100 farm location age groups kids 97.1 versus adults 100 and both sexes males 97 versus females 100 of the goats. It was concluded that there was high prevalence of Eimeria infection among Sokoto Red goats between different age groups sexes and management systems. Therefore it was recommended that urgent and adequate preventive measures should be implemented to control caprine Eimeria infection in the study area.
