Abstract
Fusarium wilt of banana or Panama disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense FOC is one of the most important economic and harmful diseases of Musa. Field evaluation of disease-tolerant banana plants in soil infested with FOC is highly effective. Although the plant age weather general conditions of root system the physical state of soils drainage the nutrient status of the soil and the amount of inoculum greatly impact the occurrence and course of the wilt disease types of cultivars of banana is recognized the most important factor to decisively influence the course of infection. In this study several indigenous cultivars of banana were selected and tested against virulence FOC. Assessment of the disease was made based on external and internal symptom by using Rhizome Discoloration Index RDI Leaf Symptom Index LSI and root count of the plants. Based on this study we can conclude that Pisang Bukong and M. borneensis were found to be resistant cultivars and Pisang Tembaga and Pisang Tanduk were tolerant cultivars against FOC.
