Abstract

The antibacterial activity of Psidium guajava methanol leaf extracts were evaluated against Xanthomonas isolates using the agar well diffusion method. Four different species of Xanthomonas Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae Xanthomonas euvesicatoria and Xanthomonas campestris pv. oryzicola were screened. The zone of inhibition at 25 mg/mL concentration ranging from 10-15 mm 50 mg/mL12-17 mm 100 mg/mL 17-20 mm and 200 mg/mL 19-25 mm. The lowest MIC value was recorded at 0.391 mg/mL for X. oryzae pv. oryzae followed by X. euvesicatoria 0.781 mg/mL and the same MIC value recorded for X. axonopodis pv. citri and X. campestris pv. oryzico/a 1.563 mg/mL. For MBC value only X. axonopodis pv. citri recorded the same value as MIC while other species showed higher value compared to the MIC value.
