Abstract

Plant Microbial fuel cell PMFC is a system that converts the solar energy into electricity and also the energy production is contributed by the microbial activities on the rhizodeposit in the soil. During the day time plants will absorb the light energy from the sun and also carbon dioxide from the surrounding to carry out photosynthesis process. As a result carbohydrate and water will be produced. The photosynthesis process is carried out in the leaves of the plants. The rhizodeposits will be utilized as substrate by the microorganism which present around the plant roots. The microorganism converts the substrate into carbon dioxide C02 and water in the presence of oxygen. In contrast by less oxygen presents protons electrons and CO‚‚ are produced. This in turn could be utilized for an efficient PMFC system. Our present research was to develop a plant fuel cell using water based plant and a soil-based PMFC and followed by studying the effectiveness of both PMFC to generate electricity.
