Abstract

The detection of Vibrio cholera 01 serotype Ogawa was carried out following an outbreak which occurred among guests participated in a wedding ceremony in Limbang Sarawak Malaysia. The outbreak affected more than 100 people. Clinical samples were collected and analyzed using conventional method and further confirmed by PCR assay targeting the outer membrane protein ompW for genomic organization for the presence of the regulatory protein gene toxR and virulence associated gene namely ctxA. The PCR analysis revealed that the clinical strains were positive for ompW toxR and ctxA genes respectively. The findings in this study emphasize the need for continued surveillance of V. cholera 01 in Sarawak Malaysia.
