Abstract
Isolation and purification of tungro viruses can be carried out using an ultracentrifuge or a high speed centrifuge. Rice tungro spherical virus RTSV and rice tungro bacilliform virus RTBV were multiplied in ;Taichung Native l; TN1 rice cultivar which has been fed to the green leafhopper Nephotettix virescens previously reared on TN1 infected with both tungro viruses. Tungro viruses were then separately isolated and purified by ultracentrifugation. RTBV particles purified were about 28 to 40 nm in width and about 130 to 200 nm in length. The diameter of purified RTSV particles was about 20 to 40 nm.
