Abstract

Aerial spraying of Bacillus thuringiensis Bt based bioinsecticides contributed to more than 50 reduction of the bagworm population by 30 days after treatment DAT. With proper timing and strategy the Bt aerial spray in combination with the existence of beneficial plants has successfully reduced the bagworm population below the threshold of five bagworms per frond. Heavy and extensive outbreak areas however require reiterate application of the Bt based bioinsecticides to reduce the bagworm population below the threshold level. The aerial spray using Bt had a synergistic effect with beneficial insects in the presence of beneficial plants and provides long-term control of the bagworm. The application of pheromones trapping to trap the male adult effectively maintains the bagworm population below threshold level. Implementation of the integrated pest management IPM system contributed to the successful control of bagworm outbreaks.
