Abstract

The genetic diversity of endophytic bacteria Pseudomonas spp. isolated from symptomless oil palm root tissue collected in Ganoderma disease area was detected by both polymerase chain reaction PCR and random amplified polymorphic DNA-polymerase chain reaction RAPD-PCR. A few Pseudomonas strains have been recognised as potential biocontrol agents with GanoEB1 showed highly significant improvement of suppressing Ganoderma disease. Identification using 16S ribosomal DNA identified GanoEB1 as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. RAPD-PCR profile was used for building phenetic tree by unweighted pair group method with arithmetic averages UPGMA. Phenogram built up with NTSYS software showed great similarity in the topology of the tree. Results demonstrated that intraspecific genetic variation clustered the Pseudomonas isolates in the same group and believed were in same species and strain.
