Abstract
Eisenia fetida is a temperate epigeic earthworm commonly used for vermicomposting. A study was conducted to compare vermicomposting by Eisenia Fetida in four different organic wastes. The four media were kitchen waste shredded banana trunk shredded newspaper and cow manure. The chemical analysis such as total nitrogen N available phosphorus P potassium K calcium Ca magnesium Mg zinc Zn copper Cu sodium Na iron Fe manganese Mn nickel Ni aluminium Al lead Pb total organic carbon C and C:N ratio was also determine on the media before and after treatment with earthworms. Kitchen waste was found out to be the best media for vermicomposting followed by shredded banana trunk shredded newspaper and cow manure i.e 20.35 24 29.9 and 38.05 days/20g earthworms/300g media respectively. Results showed significant increment in Total N Available P potassium K calcium Ca magnesium Mg zinc Zn copper Cu sodium Na iron Fe and aluminium Al in the vermicast compared to the raw media. The C:N ratio decreased significantly in all media after vermicomposting.
