Abstract

Rice is the major food source of the world and crop can reduce its; yield up to 30 due to zinc deficiency without showing any deficiency problem in the field. The soils of Kelantan are generally considered to be less fertile than the soil of other rice growing areas like Kedah- Perlis .Five soil series Batu Hitam Lubok Itek Tepus TelemongAkob Tokyong of rice growing area of Kelantan were selected for the identification of the zinc status. Soil samples were collected from three 0-15 15-30 and 30-45cm depths and each depth were covered three times from different location for same series of each soil series. The samples were air dried sieved 2mm and analyses for N P Total C Fe Cu Mn Zn and Textural classes. Zinc concentration in soil was compared with six critical limits 0.5 0.8 1 1.5 2.0 and 4.0 g g - and double acid method 0.05M HCI 0.025M H‚‚SO‚„ was used for zinc analysis. The results shows that 6.6 at 0.5 g g- 22.22 at 0.8 g g- 31.11 at 1.0 g g-1 62.22 at 1.5 g g- 84.44 at 2.0 g g- and 97.77 at 4.0 g g- soils of Kelantan were found low in zinc content. The GIS was also applied for each location. To overcome the problem the zinc fertilizer application or zinc efficient genotypes are suggested for cultivating at studied area.
