Abstract
The use of plant pathogens for the biological control of weeds has advanced in recent years resulting in some notable successes. Pathogens were being sought in the native habitats of the weed and introduced into the areas where their host plants have invaded and become problem weeds - the classical approach. One of the major examples in this field was the introduction into Australia of the rust fungus Puccinia chondrillina Bub. and Syd. for the biological control of skeleton weed Chondrilla juncea L. plant pathogens to control endemic weeds - the bioherbicidal approach - a major example being the use of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides Penz. Sacc. f. sp. aeschynomene against northern jointvetch Aeschynomene virginica their current status is given
