Abstract

The pest status of the Diamond-Back Moth DBM Plutella xylostella its chemical control thereby leading to the need and indegenous primary endo-larval parasitoid Apanteles plutellae kurdj. on the DBM was assessed expeimentally as well as from field surveys. That of the latter was considered along with the hazards from use of chemical insecticides. An appraisal was also made of the current status of the imported parasitoids Diadegma eucerophaga Horstm. and and Thyraeella collaris Grav. in particular the competitive/complementary role of d. eucephroga relative to that of A. plutella. The practical management of DBM was also discussed with special emphasis on exploiting the effects and potential of the parasitoids especially within the context of an integrated pest management system
