Abstract

Growth studies of Calamus trachycoleus canes at the Batu Puteh rattan plantation along the bank of the Kanabatangan indicated growth of about 10 feet per year per cane. Given the adverse weather conditions of 1983 it was still expected that it would be possible to get some 0.5 m.t. of canes per acre by year 8. IRR calculation for yield assumption A of 1.2 m.t./acre/year over 25 years was 19.3 and for yield assumption B of 1.0 m.t./acre/year was 15. Even if production for yield assumption B drops by 50 the IRR of 8.7 indicated that the project was still viable
