Abstract

Results obtained from several crops trials conducted in Serdang and Genting Highlands in Malaysia were extremely encouraging. Muskmelon tomato and cucumber were extensively evaluated in both locations. Cool season vegetables of high economic value such as broccoli head lettuce cauliflower capsicum and celery had been successfully grown in hydroponics and showed tremendous potential in the highlands. The high initial capital cost appeared to be the limiting factor in the widespread adoption of hydroponics in food production. Research and development in this field must be intensified to evolve low cost hydroponic systems in Malaysia
