Abstract

Animal production was considered an important component of an agricultural system. Traction power and high quality food were derived from farm animal which utilized farm surpluses of little economic value. The Malaysian livestock industry was relatively young. It was self-sufficient in pig and poultry products although nearly all raw materials required in these industries were imported. The local production of milk and beef were about 3 and 50 respectively. The potential and constraints of the animal industry were highlighted and steps to overcome these constraints were also suggested
