Abstract

Photosynthesis and transpiration of attached cocoa leaves under controlled conditions were measured using infrared gas analysers for carbon dioxide and water vapour. Photosynthetic rates obtained correspond to that for shade plants. Maximum photosynthesis was 17.1 x 10-5 g/m2/s at about 400 u Einsteins/s which corresponds to about 20 full sunlight. Stomata resistance decreased gradually with increasing light intensities to reach 320 s/m at light saturation point. The amount of water transpired at this point was 5.37 x 10-3g/m2/s.
