Abstract

The paper discusses a study carried out to financially appraise the enrichment planting project at Bukit Tinggi Forest Reserve Bentong Pahang. The cost components and the internal rate of return IRR of the project were determined while the effects on the IRR were observed by manipulating various inputs. The total cost incurred in the project amounted to M942 373.84 Malaysian Ringgit. Of the total cost planting contributed to about 54.0 per cent treatments 30.5 per cent refilling 8.5 per cent and sampling 7.0 per cent. The range of IRR that can be expected from the project is between 1.8 per cent to 5.3 per cent. The results of t0696he sensitivity analysis on the IRR showed that at the most optimistic yield and price the highest IRR obtained is 7.5 per cent. Based on a 10 per cent discounting rate commonly used for public sector projects the enrichment planting project at Bukit Tinggi is not a favorable investm
