Abstract

This study is geared towards the development of artificial reef ecosystem and to evaluate the effectiveness of the reefs in resource enhancement and habitat rehabilitation. Aspects of the study include monitoring of organisms settling on the reef; monitoring the fish resources in the reef area; and observations on the development of the overall reef ecosystem. The data collected so far indicated positive ecological developments on the artificial reef. The encrustation of various organisms is quite rapid starting with micro-algae followed by barnacles and oysters. An increase in fish population was also observed.
