Abstract

Experiments were conducted in a nursery system for fry of Siakap in late 1986. These experiments were aimed at determining suitable stocking size and density of fry to result in the most economic production with such a system. The results from 4 trials showed that fry of 1.0 cm length at a stocking density of 3 000/m2 did not affect the growth of fry in the system. However the main problem faced was cannibalism among the fry. The study showed that fry of more than 2.0 cm in size at a stocking density of about 1 500/m2 could be considered as optimum for the system with a return rate of investment of 52 percent and a payback period of 2.4 years.
