Abstract
Pusat Pengeluaran dan Penyelidikan Benih Udang Kebangsaan PPPBUK is the only prawn breeding centre in Malaysia which has carried out research on the intensive larviculture of udang galah using the closed system. The larval rearing technique and the physical requirements are described in detail. Nineteen rearing cycles were carried out from 1985 to early 1988. The average production was 42 juveniles/litre of water with metamorphosis and survival percentages at 32.8 and 57.9 respectively. The highest metamorphosis and survival percentages achieved were 72.9 and 93.8 respectively. The best results achieved so far gave a production figure of 110/litre or 1.05 million juveniles in a rearing cycle using 9.5 tonne water
