Abstract
Three heaps of rubber Hevea brasiliensis wood saw-dust and poultry litter with initial C:N ratios of 155:1 40:1 and 35:1 were composted. After 8 weeks the C:N ratios were reduced to 50:1 32:1 and 17:1 respectively. Temperature bacteriological and fungal counts were monitored. Decreases in cellulose lignin and carbon and increases in nitrogen and ash were observed. Preliminary results indicated that C:N ratio 40:1 is suitable for composting.
