This note discusses the results of a study on the sawntimber industry which also attempts to establish the elements influencing the price of sawntimber in Peninsular Malaysia. Analysis of market structure using two concentration indices indicates that the industry is made up of small firms each with relatively little market power. This finding is also supported by the results of a regression analysis of sawntimber price on its determinants. Based on these results some suggestions are made for managing the industry

Abstract
