Abstract
The centralized Pest Control Organization was able to combat the outbreaks of rodent pest in Egypt during the last 10 years by national campaigns at the beginning by utilizing acute poison zinc phosphide for quick success later on by application of the less dangerous anticoagulants. Nevertheless for a permanent sustainable system of rodent control in Egypt the farmer has to obtain responsibility. Economic necessities persuade the farmer to observe rodent damage closely and to apply rodenticides at an optimal level. A newly established Rodent Control Organization in Egypt provided the farmer with information on preventive control methods and supports the availability of devices rodenticides traps and bait stations. The strategies on rodent control and the needed organizational prerequisites have been tested in three selected districts in the three different geographical regions of Egypt for 2 years and have been proved to be appropriate. The implementation of the integrated pest management approach on rodent control in the governorates is nearly finished and should be expanded nation wide during the coming 2 years
